Group Ride Update

posted May 20, 2012, 10:09 PM by CCVelo President   [ updated May 20, 2012, 10:10 PM ]

Check out the Group Rides page for information on the known group rides in the area.  Below is a brief listing of what's going on now.  Current information on these particular rides, including cancellations or time changes, are typically posted on the FB site the night before or day of the ride.

The Tuesday Night Ride (TNR) is a 26 mile ride with 22 miles as a high intensity, group Time Trial ride.  The ride leaves CCB at 5:30pm at an easy pace, then ramps up speed beginning at MM3 to MM15 in Emerald Isle.  There is a short breather at the Public Beach access to let people catch back on, then back to Atlantic Beach MM4 at a similar pace.  The ride finishes with a recovery pace back to CCB.  This ride will build speed at threshold.  This is not a "no-drop" ride.  The pace of this ride is determined by the individual.  Contact Brian Stoll at 252-515-0798 (or email) with any questions about this ride.

The Thursday Night Ride (ThNR) is a 20 mile tempo ride that follows the same general course as the TNR, but at a slightly more relaxed pace (though not easy).  The ride leaves CCB at 6:00pm and heads towards Emerald Isle for about 10 miles, then turns around.  The pace is determined by the people that show up for the ride, typically 17-19mph.  This ride is advertised as a "no-drop" ride.  The group may split on this ride, but no-one rides alone unless they choose to.  Contact John O'Connor at 252-622-1480 with any questions about this ride.

The Crystal Coast Bicycles (CCB) Shop Ride leaves at 9:00am on Saturday mornings. The ride leaves CCB at 9:00am and rides to Fort Macon as a big group, then back to the Atlantic Beach circle at an easy pace.  From there, the ride route(s), distance(s), and pace(s) are determined by the group(s) on the day of the ride.  This ride is advertised as a "no-drop" ride.  The group typically splits on this ride based on pace or desired distance, but no-one rides alone unless they choose to.  Contact CCB at 252-247-1110 with any questions about this ride.

Enjoy!

CCORS Race No.4 - Thanks

posted Apr 15, 2012, 7:39 PM by CCVelo President   [ updated Apr 19, 2012, 8:17 PM ]

Thanks to everyone who participated in the 4th CCORS race at the Piranha Pit today.  We hope everyone enjoyed the course and the competition.  It turned out to be a beautiful, warm, and sunny day for a MTB race.  We saw some good racing, including 16 participants in the Kids race, and a photo finish for 2nd place in the Expert race.  Congratulations to all of the racers, and Thanks to all of the spectators who came to cheer on their racers!  The official race results are posted here.

If you have any comments or constructive criticism for the race event, please feel free to send an email to ccvelo.president@gmail.com. We want to know the good things, and the not so good, in hopes of providing an even better experience for our racers next time.

Special thanks go to our Prize Sponsor and Volunteers.  Mike at the Bike Depot (Havelock) provided the table and raffle prizes today.  Without the help of volunteers: Mike, Pat, Nancy, Diane, Bob, Dan, and Van, today's race wouldn't have gone as smoothly as it did.  Thanks also go to Jeff, Diane and Down East Cyclists for working with us this year on these races, and taking care of the base administration issues.

The next CCORS race is scheduled for the May 6th at the Bicycle Post trail in Greenville, NC.  Please monitor the ECVelo.org for any race related announcements.

CCORS RACE NO.4, APRIL 15, 2012

Location:  Piranha Pit Trail aboard Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, Havelock, NC

What Visitors Should Expect at Arrival:
When you arrive at the Air Station, proceed directly to the Main Gate.  The Air Station sentry will stop your vehicle and request the names of passengers and their picture ID's.  Names will be compared to the registered visitors list.  Per MCAS CP Public Affairs Office, visitors not on the list will not be allowed on the Air Station, no exception.  Drivers must also provide a current vehicle registration and proof of insurance to receive a vehicle pass.  To expedite this process, please have this information ready for the sentry.  After receiving the vehicle pass, please proceed directly to the Piranha Pit.  Staying in the left lane will prevent going into a turn-only lane and getting lost.  Depending on traffic, it could take as long as 15-20 minutes from the time you arrive at the gate until you get to the trail.  Please plan accordingly.

Click here for an Air Station map with directions to the Piranha Pit.

*** For security purposes, please stay to the main road (Roosevelt Blvd) between the Main Gate and the Piranha Pit trail.  Do not drive off to "sight-see" on the base.  Doing so could get you into serious trouble, and could result in the cancellation of this and all future races on the base. ***

CCORS Race No.4 - Announcement

posted Mar 23, 2012, 6:42 PM by CCVelo President   [ updated Apr 15, 2012, 8:38 PM by CC Velo Cycling Club ]

We are still working out the last few details with the base for the 4th race in the Coast Carolina Off-Road Series on April 15th at the Piranha Pit in Havelock, NC.  In preparation for this race, we need to do another pre-registration for visitor passes.

For base security purposes, all racers, volunteers, and spectators who require a visitors pass to access Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point NC, will need to register to be put on the visitors list.  Visitors not on the list will not be able to access the base unless they are riding as a passenger with someone who has a military base vehicle sticker.  Front gate security ended up being fairly relaxed for the first race, but we can't assume it will be the same for this race.  So please register.

No payment is required at this time as this registration is only for access to the Air Station.  You are under no obligation to race or even show up when you register.

Registration will close April 2, 2012 at 7am.  We have to submit the list to base security with a minimum of 10 business days prior to the event.

Registration is closed.  Please monitor this site and ECVelo.org for additional information.

CCORS Race No.3 Thanks

posted Mar 18, 2012, 7:08 PM by CCVelo President   [ updated Mar 18, 2012, 7:53 PM ]

Thanks to everyone who participated in the 3rd CCORS race at the Piranha Pit today.  We understand all the uncertainty lead to a less than normal turn-out.  But we hope that those who did make it enjoyed the race.  We saw some good racing today, and lots of smiles.  If you have any comments or constructive criticism for the race event, please feel free to send an email to ccvelo.president@gmail.com.  We are working hard to iron out the remaining issues with the base to hold an even better race next time.

The next race is currently scheduled for the April 15th at the Piranha Pit again.  We will need to do a pre-registration, so please monitor this website and ECVelo.org for that and any additional race information.  We hope to have some more concrete news by next weekend.

Thanks again to those who participated in today's race.  We hope to see you again next month!

CCORS Race 3 Confirmed, Visitor Registration Closed

posted Mar 13, 2012, 9:20 AM by CCVelo President

Because of the diligence in getting the word out and the support of the participants in signing up on the visitor registration list so quickly, THE THIRD RACE IN THE SERIES HAS BEEN CONFIRMED!  It will go as scheduled.  Thank you all for your patience and understanding throughout all of the unknown.

Unfortunately, to meet the demand of the base security and because of the number of visitors registered, we had to close the visitor registration early today.  We sincerely apologize to anyone who wanted to race but missed the very short registration period.  We are working with the base to ensure things go smoothly for any future races (like the 4th race).

Further information on Race 3 will be provided in the next day or two.  Please check back on Thursday or Friday for updates.

*** CCORS Race No.2 Venue Change ***

posted Feb 19, 2012, 2:38 PM by CCVelo President   [ updated Mar 18, 2012, 7:40 PM ]

Due to additional Base security requirements, the Feb 26th race has been moved to Greenville (Bicycle Post Trail).  Please get this word out to all riders, friends, etc. so that everyone knows!!!

The current plan is to hold Race No.3 in Havelock (Piranha Pit), assuming the additional security issues can be resolved with MCAS Cherry Point.  It is very likely that some type of pre-registration requirement will again be required for the two races held at MCAS Cherry Point.  Additional information will be posted as soon as available.

We thank those of you who took the time to register.  We will be sending you an email notifying you of the race change, and then your personal information will be deleted.
